Subrogation

At Travelers, our services don’t always end after payment of a claim.

Loss events and the damage they cause our insureds may be the result of another party's actions or failure to act. In these circumstances, insureds may have the legal right to pursue recovery of incurred damages. To the extent of the claim payment made by Travelers, the right of recovery may transfer to us. Subrogation is the process by which we pursue the person or entity at fault for a loss.

How our recovery process works

Our subrogation professionals focus on establishing a theory of liability to maximize recoveries. In the event of a recovery, our subrogation team may be able to return your deductible.

Our National Recovery Centers are centralized by line of business for focused and effective pursuit against responsible parties. The subrogation team consists of over 300 specialized professionals, as well as a designated team for complex and high value losses. Travelers is recognized as an industry leader by the National Association of Subrogation Professionals (NASP) and consistently exceeds the industry average of Certified Subrogation Recovery Professionals, according to ongoing NASP benchmark studies.

This network of subrogation professionals is further supported by extensive enterprise resources: internal forensic engineers who provide consultation and analysis, a state-of-the-art lab for evidence testing and storage and in-house counsel for legal consultation and pursuit.

In addition to the professionals involved, data and analytic capabilities allow Travelers to maximize subrogation recovery efforts and understand industry trends for optimal recovery results. We tailor our recovery strategies to provide superior subrogation service to you.
