Harnessing Science, Tech and Innovation to Combat Distracted Driving
December 11, 2018 | Philadelphia, PA
Each day over 100 people die on U.S. roads. With 94 percent of crashes due to driver decision errors,* there is ample room to prevent unnecessary tragedies. Texting while driving is just one example of dangerous behavior that people engage in despite well-publicized bans and educational campaigns. Smartphone apps that measure risky driving, advanced auto safety technology, and insights from behavioral economics open a new generation of possibilities for widely deployable interventions. Tuesday, December 11, we explored scalable technology and behavioral approaches to help end the distracted driving epidemic.
Presented by the Travelers Institute, the Behavioral Science and Analytics for Injury Reduction (BeSAFIR) Lab, the University of Pennsylvania Center for Health Incentives and Behavioral Economics, the Penn Injury Science Center, Penn Medicine, and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Center for Injury Research and Prevention.
