The IntelliDrive program uses a smartphone app to evaluate driving behavior for a 90-day period. If enrolled during new business issue, the policy can receive an enrollment discount for the first term. Your IntelliDrive performance will be applied at renewal and for the duration of the policy. What's measured:
- Time of day – When you drive can be as important as how you drive. Avoid driving really late at night to help improve your score.
- Speed – High speeds mean less time to react to hazards around you.
- Acceleration – Smooth acceleration is easier on your car and good for your score.
- Braking – Avoid following too closely to better anticipate what other drivers are doing around you and avoid hard braking.
- Distraction2 – Avoid making handheld calls, texting and any other physical interactions with your phone while driving.

App dashboard – This is your home base. Quickly check your driving performance and most recent trips, and get safe driving tips.
Distraction-free streak – Find out how many trips you’ve completed in a row without interacting with your phone. Streaks are a fun way to challenge yourself and your family to put down your phones and reduce distracted driving.

Trip details – Get details about a specific trip, with a map that highlights where you had an event like a hard brake or a fast acceleration.

Questions about the IntelliDrive app
IntelliDrive is a 90-day program that uses a smartphone app to capture and score driving behavior of drivers covered on your policy. By enrolling you could save on your policy’s first term. At renewal, safe driving habits can lead to savings of up to 30%, while riskier driving habits can result in a higher premium.*
*In NV, safe drivers can save up to 40%. In NJ, safe drivers can save up to 25%.
**In DC, MT, NC and VA, riskier driving habits will not result in a higher premium.
After installing the IntelliDrive app on your smartphone, the app will automatically detect when you get into a vehicle and start a trip. It will collect driving information for 90 days and then determine your overall driving performance. The driving performance of you and the other participating drivers on the policy will be used to adjust your premium the first time your auto policy renews and will apply for the life of the policy.
IntelliDrive captures information about driving habits associated with braking, acceleration, speed, time of day and distraction. After each trip, you can review a map of your route and your driving performance to date. Location performance collected in the app is not used to determine your auto premium.
Any handheld interaction with the phone while driving is going to negatively impact your distraction score. This includes things like in-hand phone calls, texting, typing and tapping on the phone. Applications that are running on your phone, but don't require you to interact with the phone, will not negatively impact the distraction score. For example, navigation or music running in the background that you're not engaging with. Interacting with vehicle infotainment systems, including phone calls from a connected Bluetooth device, will not negatively impact your distraction score.
Each driver's driving performance is used to calculate your insurance premium when your auto policy renews. Safe driving habits can lead to savings of up to 30%*, while riskier driving habits may result in a higher premium.**

Yes. If you are not satisfied with the IntelliDrive program for any reason, you can opt out within 45 days of enrollment with no impact other than the loss of your enrollment discount. Just call your agent or Travelers representative to opt out. After 45 days, your IntelliDrive driving behavior may affect your premium at your next renewal.*
*In KS, customers can opt out of the program within 90 days from enrollment. In MT, customers can opt out of the program at any time.
Travelers will send a text with a link to download the app. You can also find the Travelers IntelliDrive app through the app store.
Apple iPhones 4S and above are supported, but iOS 14 or newer is required. All Android phones are supported, but they must contain cellular, Wi-Fi and GPS chips. Android 10 or newer is required.
Yes. Your mobile phone needs to be on with permission settings enabled, such as location services and Wi-Fi, for the IntelliDrive app to function most accurately.
The app does its best to determine whether you are the driver of a vehicle. If you are a passenger and the app records you as a driver, you will have 10 days to change the information in the app.
To correct a trip within the app: go to More > Trips, select the trip that needs to be adjusted, click "I was the driver," and change to "I was the passenger."
The IntelliDrive app uses a negligible amount of battery when you're not driving and slightly more when you are taking a trip. Most users won't notice a significant battery difference after installing the IntelliDrive app. The IntelliDrive app is also designed to minimize data usage. Data is transmitted using either Wi-Fi or your data plan, depending on which network is available at the time of upload.
You can reinstall the IntelliDrive app on a new phone by searching the app store for "IntelliDrive" and following the same registration instructions. The 90-day program will resume where you left off.
If the IntelliDrive app is not installed, Travelers will send reminder text messages to each driver that has not yet installed the app. If the app is still not installed, we may remove the driver from the program. Removing a driver would affect your enrollment discount.
The driving performance for the driver removed will no longer be considered.
The newly added driver has the option of enrolling in the IntelliDrive program. If other drivers on the policy are enrolled in IntelliDrive, the enrollment discount may be adjusted if the driver is added during the first policy term.
IntelliDrive is available in 43 states: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Washington D.C., Wisconsin and Wyoming.
