If a student on your policy attends school far from home, you may be eligible for a discount on your car insurance. When a student under 25 who’s insured on your policy lives at a school more than 100 miles from home and doesn’t regularly drive a car insured on your policy, you may qualify for a Student Away at School Discount.
This discount applies even if the student occasionally drives the car when at home during breaks and holidays. State exceptions may apply, so check with your local independent agent or Travelers representative to learn more.
Who is eligible for the Student Away at School Discount?
To qualify for a Student Away at School Discount, you, the policyholder, must:
- Have a student under the age of 25 listed on your auto policy who drives your insured car.
- Demonstrate that the student is attending and residing at a school more than 100 miles from home and does not have a car at school.
- Make sure the student only drives your insured car occasionally, such as during school breaks or holidays.
Other coverages

Jewelry and valuable items
From jewelry to collectibles, you may have more valuables than you realize. And your home insurance policy may not provide the coverage you need.
Umbrella insurance
