New York City Boiler Inspection Law Changes
Effective July 1, 2008, New York City requires owners of boilers to correct defects found during a low pressure boiler inspection and provide written confirmation to the City of corrections within 45 days. Penalties for failing to comply with these new requirements could include fines of up to $5,000.
Some important topics related to the City's boiler inspection law changes are:
- If your client owns a boiler which has defects found during a jurisdictional inspection, they must have the defect(s) repaired by a licensed boiler repair contractor.
- The boiler is then re-inspected by an approved inspector to confirm the defect has been repaired.
- Once the re-inspection is complete, your client submits an Affirmation of Correction (BO-13) to the City which has been signed by the approved inspector.
- All these steps must be completed along with the City receiving the BO-13 report within 45 days to avoid facing fines. Quick action from boiler owners is crucial.
